Had brunch at 11am this morning after First Aid class, and I have not eaten any thing until now, 12 hours liao.
IMU food sucks.
And IMU orientation is really crazy, but fun lah! We had our Ice Breaker from 4.30pm till 10.30pm. Divided into 2 parts, Dry and Wet. Avoid the dry one, I talk about the wet one.
Amount of Stations: 6 Materials used: Water, water guns, flour, starch mixture, butter, raw eggs, poster colour, water colour balloons, calligraphy black ink, etc Victims: Most of the students, included me
My hair is full with butter, dunno which idiot dug the whole packet of butter into my head. I washed for 3 times, finally I think it's clean.
The orientation T-shirt, they wanted us to wear on Friday!! Shit, how to wash clean and dry? Even it's dry , there will be stains. Oh well... But the games are fun, yet damn crazy... hehehe

We had First Aid Introduction lecture this morning by Dr Nyunt Wai.
Basically just intro, and one part, talked about checking pulse of casualty. He told us to check our own pulse. *everyone trying*
Then I heard one of the guy sitting behind me said, "Shit! Why I don't have? Die lah!!"
Me and Paul almost burst out. Haloo, It's not that you don't have, but you can't find okay? lol

| Dun ask |
[27 Aug 2008|04:04pm] |
Yes. Something I did to someone in the past came back to haunt me. I finally bumped into him on my prowls for prey, much to my horror, delight and fear. He knew it was me based on my email, though I didn't recognise his at first.
I was cautious at first, and then aghasted at the change in him. I prodded further and then the flood gates opened.
It was something I did in the very height of my youthful arrogance.
Indirectly because of what I did, it totally changed him.
It hurts. It really hurts, knowing that I played a hand in shaping why he is now.
I did unimaginable harm to countless guys through the course of my younger days. There is not a day that goes by that I regretted my actions back then. If I can go back in time, I would have prevented and stopped myself.
But I can't. I can't undo the past.
I can only try to make amends for it in the present and henceforth.

| How to Apply for the Chinese Tourist Visa - On Your Own |
[27 Aug 2008|02:42pm] |
I was hoping that they waive the visa requirements for tourists since the Olympics is now over. Unfortunately, I still had to make that trip to the Chinese Embassy for my Shanghai/Nanjing trip early next month. Prior to that, I have heard so much horror stories of how difficult it is to get a visa and the long queues that you have to endure just for that piece of paper that allow you entry into mainland China.
Well, I finally got my Chinese tourist visa and it wasn't as tough as I have expected.
Here's how the visa procedure work and what you should prepare: ( Read more... )

| not why, but welcome |
[26 Aug 2008|07:47pm] |
it has been an enriching 2 weeks (and i am not even through the middle of the first week!) here in PSR. the people are open, loving, and while i had been ashamed in the past to be called Christian, with the negative connotations of being judgemental and hypocritical, this community is exemplary of what the Christian faith is all about.
one of the 2nd year students, Ted, was asked if he was seeking ordination from the Lutheran Church. i was amazed at his reply. he said no, and he went on to explain that he will not want to be ordained as long as his church discriminated against ordination of GLBT people.
i met Monica, a transgendered black student here who is with the City of Refuge United Church of Christ. i thought i was the minority here - but there are at least 5 same-sex couples here in PSR i have met so far.
one of the most moving experience was when Laura shared about her return to the church - she attended 6th Presbyterian - and as an all inclusive church, they did not say why, but just welcome.
i see what form of community we can be. FCC can become a church that is welcoming and embracing. in the past when straight people walk into our church, the first question i had was "why". i did not understand back then that they are living out the teachings of Christ.
we need to grow and break away from our comfort zones and sticking to people like us, but understand and befriend those who are unlike us. it is a challenge to a lot of us, and i have come a long way myself, but if we profess to be disciples of Christ, if we profess to be loving, then we must be able to embrace each other, regardless of who we are, where we are at in our journeys, what backgrounds we come from. Christ is all about a radical inclusivity - touching the untouchable, loving the unloveable.
can we make FCC a place not only where we call home, but a place where everyone can call home?
welcome home our sign at the door says. let's live by that, always.
i end this mail with a reflection from the prayer session i had this evening adapted from psalm 130.
Out of the depths we cry to you, O Healer of Hearts. Hear our voices! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of our supplications! If you, O God, should count only offences, who could stand? However, there is forgiveness with you, for that we sing your praises. We wait for you, our souls wait, and in your word we hope; ours souls wait for you, more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning. O people of the earth, hope in the power of love! For with compassion there is steadfast love, and with you, O compassionate One, is great power to redeem. It is your love which will redeem us from our failure to love.
